It’s the middle of winter here in the UK which is my time to shine as a self-proclaimed yarn hoarder! I used super chunky yarn and half-treble crochet stitches to create this intricate braided infinity scarf. The beauty of this pattern is that it is simple and beginner friendly but the end result looks so elegant and impressive.
I used Paintbox Yarns Wool Mix Super Chunky in the colour Seafoam Blue (931), this yarn is beautiful to work with and the finished scarf is lovely and soft; you can use any super chunky yarn for this pattern but you can find the right amount of yarn for this project with the Paintbox Yarns Wool Mix Super Chunky 5 Ball Value Pack available at LoveCrafts, <here>[paid link]. They also offer individual balls, available <here>[paid link].
This scarf is made to match the Elegantly Entwined Ear Warmer which is also available as a free pattern on my blog <here>
You will need:
500g Super Chunky Yarn
12mm Crochet Hook
Yarn Needle
Scissors
Safety Pins (optional – helps with assembly)
Pattern Terms:
This pattern uses UK crochet terms
ch --> Chain Stitch
[ ] --> Total number of stitches worked in each round or row between the square brackets
htr --> Half Treble Crochet [*US – Half Double Crochet]
Notes:
This pattern is written in UK crochet terms
Finished scarf measures approximately 78cm in length (this is the drop size so approximately half of the scarf)
I am left handed so some of the progress photos and diagrams may seem backwards to you, not to worry, it’s exactly the same just mirrored.

Pattern:
Strands (make 5)
ch132
Row1 – working in the 3rd chain from the hook, 130htr, ch2 and turn [130]
Row2 – 130htr [130]
At the end of Row2 tie off and cut, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing.
Repeat the pattern above until you have 5 long strands.
Assemble:
Now we are going to braid the 5 strands together, this is easier to do on a large flat surface like the floor or a table.
Lay the 5 strands out so they are all in line and running parallel to each other. To start you may want to weight the ends, have someone hold then or pin them down depending on where you’re working.
Divide the strands so there is 2 on one side and 3 on the other. Always working from the side with 3 strands, take the outside strand and pass it over the middle strand and under the inside strand and add it to the other side. Now switch to the other side as it now has 3 strands and repeat. See diagram for more detail.
Once you have finished the braid you need to connect the top end to the bottom end to form a circle.
Start by folding the braid in half so the top and bottom ends meet, try to keep the braid at either ends tight and secure as you do this.
Then match the strands at the top of the bottom, I secured the 2 ends together using safety pins.
Once you are happy with the matches use the long yarn tails and your yarn needle to sew the top strand to the bottom strand.
You have now finished your scarf!
